He worked for Tennessee Eastman Company, retiring in 1995 with more than 39 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Earnest Hillman; great-grandson, Ethan Robert Lay.
He leaves to mourn him, his loving wife of 51 years, Dorothy Collins Hillman; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Glen Bledsoe, Greensboro, N.C., Jacqueline and Todd Carver, Partlow, Va., Michelle and Jeff Douglas, Fall Branch; seven grandchildren, Kevin and Kristen Bledsoe, Joshua, Matthew and Hunter Carver, Taylor and Raven Douglas; a brother and his wife, Max and Gladys Hillman, Richmond, Va; sisters and their husbands, Phyllis and Tommy Cassell, Gate City, Va., Karen and Howard Dockery, Nickelsville, Va., Lyndell and Joe Greear, Weber City, Va; four brothers-in-law and their wives, Clyde and Ruth Collins, Paul and Ruth Collins, all of Gate City, Va., Howard and Imogene Collins, Fred and Eva Collins, all of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Jack Dixon.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and other times at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronald Abbott officiating.
Music will be provided by Tom and Wanda Sensabaugh.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Holston View Cemetery by American Legion Hammond Post No. 3 and Gate City Post No. 265.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Bledsoe, Joshua Carver, Matthew Carver, Jeff Cassell, Mike Cassell and Duane Collins. at age 70.1
