Gary lived most of his life in Kingsport. He attended Sullivan South High School then began a career in sales, although many believed his calling was to be a stand-up comedian.

He later made his father proud by following in his footsteps becoming a Lead Technician in the installation and repair of telephone fiber optic electronic equipment.

When illness struck, Gary was confined to working at home, owning and operating a small woodworking shop.

Gary was preceded in death by both sets of paternal and maternal grandparents.

He is survived by his parents John Selby and wife Catherine. Vera Lane Jeffers and husband Ron; his three sons, Gary "Allen" Selby, Jr., Stephen Phillip Selby, Sr., both of Blountville and Brady Lee Hite of Kentucky; One young lady who held the title of daughter in his heart, Randi Nicely; Two grandsons Stephen "Phillip" Selby, Jr. and Neyland Chase Hite. A bonus granddaughter Genesis Grim; two brothers, Daryl and James Selby; one sister Gina Selby Compton; two step brothers Tony and Mark Cox.

Due to the Covid crisis,
there will be a future private inurnment ceremony for close friends and family only.
