Hop was working on a river drive that started on the Clinch River in the Ft. Blackmore area with a destination on the Tennessee River, probably Clinton or Chattanooga. He fell off the logs into the river and drowned. They did not find his body until a week or two later.4,2,9
     After the death of her husband, Eva moved in with her parents. She was pregnant with her son John Jr. "Hoppy" at the time and had two other children.10
     Eva died with atherosclerosis vascular disease and a fractured hip on Mar 22, 1972 at Louisa, Virginia, US, at age 97.4,7,11
     She was buried at Duncan Cemetery, East Stone Gap, Scott, Virginia, US.4
