She was born May 23, 1939 in Sullivan County and was of the Baptist faith. She was a graduate of Nickelsville High School and Montgomery College of Silver Spring, Md.
She was retired from the U.S. Department of Commerce after 41 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Flo Kilgore Cox; infant brother, Garland Hansford Cox; and a step-brother, Michael H. Cox.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, John H. Cox and wife Edith of Weber City, Va; two step-sisters, Sandra Cox Greenwell and husband, Terry of Gray, and Pattie Cox Kestner and husband, Danny of Kingsport; one step-brother, Jim Cox and wife, Glenda of Gate City, Va; nieces, Lori Templeton, Anna Quillen, and Marina Cox; nephews, Steven Cox, Jonathan Cox, Nathan Cox, Michael H. Cox II, and Patrick John Cox; and special friend, Jim Matzel of Silver Spring, Md.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home.
The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Cox officiating.

     Music will be provided by her niece, Lori Templeton.
Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.. It is requested that those wishing to attend those services meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Morning Light Community Church, c/o Jim Cox, 13614 East Carters Valley Rd., Gate City, Va. 24251, or the youth fund at
Gate City United Methodist Church, 103 East Walnut St., Gate City, Va. 24251.
Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Cox family.4
