She was a graduate of Hiwassee College and Radford College, received her master’s degree from University of Virginia and retired after teaching 31 years in the Wise County School System. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Wise, VA, active in United Methodist Women, both at the local and conference level. She was a member of Fortnightly Club in Wise, VA and a member of Boone Trail Chapter of DAR. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobart and Ella Elam; brothers, Leland and Bill Elam; and a great-granddaughter, Ansley Mae Smith. Surviving are a son, B. G. Jennings, Jr. and wife Sheila of Tarboro, NC; two daughters, Jennifer Kelly and husband Pat of Charlottesville, VA and Susan Smith and husband Gary of Wise, VA; grandchildren, Eric Smith, Celeste Smith, Michelle Hallahan, Ian Kelly and Michael Jennings; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Kathleen Jennings will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Rev. Philip Bates, Rev. Mike Winters and Rev. Jennifer Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 1, 2014 in the Wise Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 A.M.
