Marine Corps and assigned to active duty with a flying squadron of the fighting Leathernecks. The Marine flier received his commission after graduating from an advanced flight training school at Pensacola.
He is a graduate of Sullivan high school and attended Tusculum College where he was a star athlete.
He has been given a 15-day leave before reporting for active duty.

Pat Miller Sr., 81, 3648 South Wilcox Dr., died at 5 p.m. Thursday in Kingsport Manor Nursing Home. Death came unexpectedly.
He was born in Scott County, Va., came to the Kingsport area in 1921 and was employed by Tennessee Eastman Company the same year. He remained employed there until 1956, retiring after 35 years of service. He attended the Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Myrtle B. Miller; daughters, Mrs. J. W. (Vivian) Selby and Mrs. J. M. (Sankic) Boyd, both of Kingsport; son, Pat Miller Jr., Kingsport; sisters, Mrs. James McDavid, Mrs. C. M. Taylor, and Mrs. Willie McDavid, all of Clinchport, and Mrs. Nannie Miller, Gate City; brother, Bradley Miller, Shelbyville, Ind; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Vivian was a member of Liberty Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, L.U.G.E.N.S., and Glen Alpine Methodist Church; she also served as president of the Sullivan High School and Sullivan Elementary School PTA several times.
Vivian is survived by her sons, Joe Selby, John Selby (Catherine), and David Selby (Sue), thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home is serving the family of Vivian Selby.
