No doubt he had heard glowing accounts of Daniel Boone and his experiences in the regions west of the Blue Ridge, and with that adventurous spirit which characterized many of the early settlers in Southwest Virginia, he disposed of his property in Culpeper at a good price and set out to fine a new home. Just why he failed to continue into Kentucky is not known but finding inviting surroundings and good land along the Clinch River bottoms of Scott County, Virginia he settled near what was the Osborne’s Ford, now Dungannon, Virginia. Here he bought a part of the Ritchie Patent, built a home, reared his family, and spent his life. He and his wife were buried near Dungannon on part of the land which he bought. On the last Sunday of July 1936, a large group of his descendants assembled as this last resting place and there dedicated a monument to his memory.”.⁴
