William Duncan was born on Jan 10, 1659 at Perth, Pertshire, Scotland.2
William Duncan married Margaret McCurde on Jun 14, 1682 at Glascow, Lanark, Scotland.1,2 William Duncan immigrated circa 1690 to North Carolina, US. Culpepper Co. VA Records and "Green Family Records" indicate that a William Duncan with his brothers Charles, Henry and Thomas immigrated to America between 1690 and 1694. Those four brothers are considered to be the four sons of Rev. William Duncan who died in 1692, as the names and ages readily correspond. It also appears logical that as their father had been persecuted by the Western Whips and Presbyterians, that they were receiving the same treatment, and that shortly after their father's death, they decided to immigrate to America. They first settled in the northern neck of VA which became Belhaven in 1731 and Alexandria in 1749. In 1700 there was a William Duncan and his brother Thomas who were located on a 100 acre plantation on Maryland's Eastern Shore in Somerset County, which they called "First Contentment".3

He is clad in armour and kneels on a cushion. A prayer scroll issues from him to a lost ‘Trinity' plate. The shields bear the crescent sign indicating his status as a second son. At the base of the slab are plates showing his three daughters in their ‘kennel' headdresses and his two stepsons with their purses. Sir Lionel was knighted at the Siege of Tournai by King Henry VIII. Very unusually, Sir Lionel is commemorated by two brasses for on the floor nearby he is depicted on a ‘shroud' brass, but this is excessively worn and it is difficult to picture its originasl appearance. It is possible to lift the nearby carpet to view this brass.2
