A few months ago Cox was tried for the murder of William Burke, but was acquitted on a plea of self defense. He is a member of a prominent Scott County family. on Dec 4, 1912 at Scott, Virginia, US.5 He married Lennie Spears, daughter of D A Spears and Elizabeth (?), on Aug 26, 1914 at Scott, Virginia, US.6 Emory M. "Jude" Cox was reflected in teh census as a carpenter in 1940 at Sullivan, Tennessee, US.7 He died in 1966.8 He was buried after 1966 at East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Kingsport, Sullivan, Tennessee, US, Inscription: husband of Linnie Spears Cox. Surviving are his loving wife of 27 years, Helen Cox; daughter, Kim Lane and husband, Terry; son, Terry Lynn Cox and wife, Terri; step daughter, Melissa Robinson; grandchildren, Weston Montgomery, Jesse Lane and fiancé, Shelby, Dalton Lane and Carson Lane; great grandson, Fletcher Lane; brother, Howard Cox and wife, Dora and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Military Committal Rites will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, May 7, 2016 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services by the American Legion Post #3 and Post #265 with Rev. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating. Entombment will be in Oak Hill II Mausoleum.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will begin at 4:00 pm Saturday, May 7, 2016 in the Fellowship Hall at Mafair United Methodist Church, 1409 E. Center St., Kingsport, TN 37664.
